Now that the Royal Wedding is over and much of the world has gotten back to “business as usual”, we can take the time to reflect on the historic day and answer the question women all over the world want to know: “What did Meghan Markle where on her wedding day?”
Anyone who watched the televised coverage of the Royal Wedding already knows what she wore, but who made her dress, where did the jewels come from and who designed that tiara that looked incredible with her understated, yet sleek, gown? Let’s take a closer look at what Meghan Markle wore on her wedding day:
The Dress:
Meghan’s dress was designed by the acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller, who, just last year, became the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy. The sleek and simple design fit Meghan’s style perfectly as she has often opted for more simplistic styles in her wardrobe.
Her Jewelry:
Markle did not opt for anything bold. The bride typically prefers daintier pieces, stackable rings and (like her engagement ring) yellow gold. She went with hexagonal studs from Cartier’s newest collection, paired with a diamond cuff on her right wrist from the same range. Meghan has worn the Canadian-based Maison Birks since her Suits days and she purchased seven pieces from the brand, including the Plaisirs de Birks Yellow Gold and Opal Earrings she wore for her engagement announcement, and their Snowflake Round Jacket Earrings, which she wore to the Queen’s Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace and to church in Sandringham on Christmas Day. She chose to pair Maison Birks pieces with her Cartier selection for her special day which came as no surprise to the line’s vice president, Eva Hartling, the vice president who, when asked what she thought Meghan would likely wear on her big day, stated “I’m sure it is going to be refined and elegant… It will probably involve a simple pair of earrings that will bring out her natural beauty, she won’t overdo it.” Harry opted to visit Cleave & Company when designing Meghan’s engagement ring.
That Tiara!
For Meghan’s “Something Borrowed”, she chose to pair her minimal jewels with a bold tiara, which originally belonged to Queen Mary. The tiara that the entire world was talking about fit Meghan beautifully and gave her “the look” she was after on her special day. It was an understated look that will forever be remembered by the world.
